Compassionate Caregiver Intervention involves 1-2 visits per week or 8-16 hours per month of consultation with a Behavior Analyst, delivered over a short term of no more than 6 months. This individualized therapy helps families interact more effectively with their family member by increasing communication, socialization, community integration, and self-care skills, while also reducing challenging behaviors like non-compliance and aggression. By the end of the service, caregivers will understand the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and be able to teach their family member new skills. They will also be more effective in managing their family member's behavior, resulting in the acquisition of 1-6 new skills and reduced challenging behavior.
Comprehensive ABA for children ages 3-7 involves 20-40 hours per week of direct therapy by a behavior technician, supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at least 1-2 times per week or 2-16 hours per month. Supervision levels vary based on the caregiver's ability to learn behavior techniques and the family member's behavior severity. This type of therapy is designed to last about two years, aiming for a gradual transition away from intensive therapy. During this transition, therapy hours may reduce, with direct hours dropping below 10 hours per week and supervision hours less than 8 hours per month. The goal is to eventually phase out the behavior technician's involvement.
Focused ABA targets individuals ages 7 through adulthood and is tailored to the individual's needs, consisting of approximately 15 hours per week of direct therapy by a behavior technician. Supervision by a Behavior Analyst occurs monthly, with the level of supervision varying based on the caregiver's ability to learn behavior analytic techniques and the severity of the individual's behavior issues and skill deficits. This therapy typically lasts 6 months to a year, aiming for a gradual transition from intensive therapy. During this transition, therapy hours may reduce, eventually phasing out the behavior technician's involvement.
ABA Clinical Consultation can occur in Residential Programs, Classrooms and Adult Day Programs. These services are generally provided by Behavior Analysts on a monthly basis with a focus on promoting increased independence with adaptive skills while assisting staff with strength-based behavior management strategies.
